CITL provides teaching and learning support to the ShanghaiTech University community by offering confidential, personalized consultations, which typically involve in-depth conversations across a wide variety of topics, including course and instructional design, teaching philosophy, innovative teaching, etc.

Faculty members and instructional professors are welcome and encouraged to contact CITL via CITL@shanghaitech.edu.cn if you want to communicate your thoughts or clear up your confusions about teaching. Service offered include consultation or classroom observation tailored to your needs.

  • Yu Zou  Professor,  PI  Institute of Humanities

    Prof. Zou graduated from Fudan University with a bachelor's degree in English. He received his Ph.D. in comparative literature from the University of California, Berkeley. He worked at Fudan University, Bates College, Arizona State University and Chongqing University before he joined Shanghaitech University at 2020.

    Courses: Shakespeare: Selected Readings, Introduction to Western Sinology or Chinese Studies, General Theory of Civilized Communication, English Literary Tradition and Writing, etc.

  • Hua Yang  Associate Teaching-oriented Professor  SCA

    Prof. Yang graduated from Pietrenbess School of Design, Dusseldorf, Germany. She was the director of digital media major of Changjiang School of Art and Design, Shantou University and chair professor of Dusseldorf Technology University (Pietberens School of Design). She founded CKAD Interactive Studio in 2012. In 2019, she joined ShanghaiTech University as the executive director of Intelligent Virtual Design Laboratory. Her works have been exhibited worldwide and she have won many international awards in the field of digital media.

    Courses: User Experience and Innovative Design, Digital Product Design, Design Thinking: Innovative Solutions of Product and Interactive Design, etc.


  • Jianjun Jia Associate Teaching-oriented Professor SEM

    Prof. Jia received his Ph.D. in Accounting from Fudan University and studied in the Department of Accounting at Niels Brock Copenhagen Business School, Denmark, and the Business School of Charles Sturt University, Australia. He was a senior visiting scholar at the School of Business Administration, University of Rhode Island, USA. From 1997 to early 2019, he served as an associate professor in Shanghai Lixin University of Accounting and Finance, and served as the Vice President of the Accounting School of Shanghai Finance College from January, 2010 to June, 2016. He has won many awards such as outstanding young teachers in Shanghai universities and Teaching Quality Award of Shanghai Finance College. He joined ShanghaiTech University in 2019.

    Courses: Financial Analysis, Management Accounting, Corporate Valuation and Financial Analysis, etc.



  • Rui Fan  Associate Professor, PI  SIST

    Prof. Fan received his BSc in computer science and mathematics from Caltech in 2000, and his PhD in computer science from MIT in 2008.  He was a postdoc at the University of Toronto in 2008, and a Viterbi postdoc at the Technion, Israel in 2010. He was an assistant professor at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore before he joined ShanghaiTech University as an associate professor, PI in December 2016. Rui Fan is currently the SSC Director and the Curriculum and Teaching Committee Director.

  • Ji Hu  Associate Professor, PI  SLST

    Prof. Hu graduated from Huazhong University of Science and Technology with a bachelor's degree. He received his Ph.D. from National Institute of Biological Sciences (NIBS)/ Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences.He was a postdoc at the Picower Institute for Learning and Memory at MIT. After returning to China, he worked in the Frontier Science and Technology Research Institute of Xi'an Jiaotong University. He joined ShanghaiTech University in 2014.

    Courses: Introduction to Modern Life Science, Introduction to Neuroscience, Experimental Biology, etc.


  • Qixi Mi  Associate Professor, PI  SPST

    Prof. Mi earned his B.S. degree from Peking University in applied chemistry (2003) and his Ph.D. degree from Northwestern University in chemistry (2009). Later he performed postdoctoral research at California Institute of Technology, taking advantage of a fellowship of the NSF Center for Chemical Innovation (CCI Solar), and then briefly at the Argonne–Northwestern Solar Energy Research (ANSER) Center. He joined ShanghaiTech University in 2013.
